Description
Circuit Foil Luxembourg (CFL) is a company specialized in the development and fabrication of high-end electrodeposited copper foils. Based in Wiltz (Luxembourg), CFL produces over 10 thousand tons of copper annually. These foils are mainly destined to the electronics industry (printed circuit board manufacture), notably for 5G and high frequency applications, but also to lithium-ion Batteries (LIB) business.
CFL constantly develops new products and processes, thanks to its strong R&D capacities, in order to meet the ever-growing market requests of its numerous worldwide customers (from over 50+ countries). This includes, amongst others, the development of specially treated copper current collectors for next generations LIB.
Role and Key Contribution to the Project
Relying on his extensive (60+ years of) expertise in industrial copper foil manufacture and treatment, CFL is responsible for the development and manufacture of a next generation anodic current collector, specially designed for pure (or high content) silicon anodes for lithium-ion batteries. This includes optimization of the copper foil mechanical properties, and development of a special, double-sided treatment, specifically designed to cope with the high-swelling behaviour of silicon, in order to improve the cycling performances of these disruptively high energy density batteries.
