greenSPEED at the European Researchers’ Night: When life gives you lemons, make batteries! 🍋🔋
Virtual Vehicle (ViF), coordinator and dissemination leader of the greenSPEED project, participated in the European Researcher’s Night in Graz. Together with EFFEREST, HiPE, OpMoSi and the E-VOLVE Cluster, ViF hosted a joint booth inviting visitors of all ages to discover the power of lemons.
The team demonstrated how a lemon battery can light up a light bulb or run a clock, while explaining the reason behind this phenomenon. Visitors were also able to make their own lemon batteries. The European Researcher’s night featured various booths and research topics, one of which was the EM-Tech project (part of the E-VOLVE Cluster). At their booth, visitors were introduced to the world of (electro)magnetism and were able to build their own mini electric motors. Naturally, this led to a cross-over of our booths, where you could see the team members from both booths coming together and combining the experiments: replace the battery of their electric motor with our lemon battery!
The event attracted over 1000 visitors who were eagerly waiting to learn and experiment – Curiosity and a thirst for knowledge know no age limits! A big thank you to acib GmbH, University of Graz and Fachhochschule St. Pölten for hosting and organising this wonderful event. We look forward to the 2025 edition.
PS: If you speak German, make sure to also check out the podcast from the European Researcher’s Night were our ViF colleagues gave a short interview on the booth!
